FAQ’s

What are the benefits of robotic mowing?

Robotic mowers cut the grass a little at a time each day which keeps the grass healthier.  Healthier grass requires less water & fertilizer which also becomes a cost savings.  Robotic mowers run on electricity which is cheaper than gas.  They produce NO carbon emissions and therefore are better for the environment.  They are quiet and can run anytime day or night without disturbing your neighbors.  Give yourself the peace of mind that your grass is always cut and the time you’ll save can be spent doing the things you love.

How safe are robotic mowers?

Extremely safe.  There have been no safety incidents recorded with a Robotic mower to date.  Unlike the large, high-speed blades that traditional mowers use, robotic mowers use smaller blades that don’t extend beyond the edges.  They have sensors, so when they touch something or the device is lifted, they shut off immediately.

Do I have to rent a mower, or can I buy my own?

At GreenMow Robotics, we have both options available.  We rent the mowers, install them on your property, and monitor it for you.

We also offer a large selection of robotic mowers at competitive prices for purchase and will provide you with a service plan.

Will all of the mowing make my allergies worse?

It should actually have the opposite effect. Because the grass is consistently cut and kept short, it prevents plant allergens from becoming airborne.  Robotic mowers have smaller blades that won’t kick up allergens like traditional mowers.  And the best part is, you don’t have to expose yourself to the pollen floating through the air because you won’t be the one doing the mowing.

How long will my installation take?

The installation time will depend upon the layout of your yard, size, and obstacles.  The good news is, you don’t need to be home, as our installers will keep in contact with you during the process.  Typically installation time ranges between 2-5 hours.

How do I control the mower if I need to start or stop it?

The mower is controlled remotely on our network, so one of our team members can start or stop it for you at any time.  If you need to start or stop your mower manually, there is a button on the mower you can press.

Will you need to dig up my yard to bury wires for the robotic mower?

Burying the wires will prevent the mower from accidentally running over and cutting the wires, but it’s not required.  If we do need to dig, the utility companies will mark any wires or pipes currently underground so that we are sure to not interfere with your utilities.

Will my yard look better?

Absolutely!  Your yard will be healthier and greener.  You don’t have to worry anymore about that overgrowth that happens between mowings.  Your yard will remain at the optimal height every single day.  The small clippings act as mulch and help to keep your grass healthier.  A healthy lawn is a green lawn.

What is the largest property size one mower can cut?

Some of our mowers can cover up to 1.25 acres.  However, if you have a property size larger than 1.25 acres, 2 or more mowers can work in tandem to get the job done.  They will each have their own charging station and cut zones.

What if my yard is oddly shaped or has lots of obstacles?

We will review the layout of your land prior to installation and go over any areas that should be avoided such as garden beds.  We will program your mower to avoid those areas.  If there are water features or steep slopes in your yard, they may need to be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

What if my lawn is uneven?

Slight differences are ok, but if you have any gaps or holes, we will recommend you fill them prior to installation.

Will the mower work in narrow spaces?

Our robotic mowers can vary in size, so the narrowest space one can fit in will depend on the model you have.  Some of our mowers can fit into spaces as narrow as 24 inches.

Can the mower detect smaller objects such as toys left in the yard?

No, unfortunately, smaller lightweight objects will not be detected by the robotic mowers.  We recommend you keep the yard free and clear of any objects that don’t belong on the grass.

How does the mower handle objects falling from the trees?

Smaller objects like leaves will be mulched over just like the grass.  If you have larger objects falling from your trees such as fruits or pinecones, we recommend you take the time to clear them out prior to the mower running.  They can dull the blades and also set off the collision sensors.

Will the mower run over my flower or garden beds?

Don’t worry, your garden beds will be protected as will anything else that you tell us you want to be avoided.  We will set up boundary lines upon installation.

What if my grass is really long prior to installation?

We ask that you cut your grass with a traditional mower within 48 hours of your scheduled installation.  The robotic mowers work by cutting off small pieces each day, so starting out with longer grass will not allow our mowers to work properly.

Will the robotic mower run in any weather?

Your robotic mower will run rain or shine.  However, in extreme weather conditions, we will park your mower.  They are built to run in temperatures up to 113℉.

Can children and/or pets play in the yard while the mower is running?

Our mowers have built-in safety features with blades setting back 3 inches from the edges to keep fingers, toes & paws safe.  When our mowers hit an obstacle, they will stop and turn around.  However, we do recommend you talk to your children and teach them that your robotic mower is not a toy, and they should not try to pick them up or play with them.  Also, in our experience,  most dogs ignore the mowers.

What if someone tries to steal my mower?

We have anti-theft features built into all of our mowers.  All mowers require a pin code to operate.  An alarm will sound if the mower is taken outside of your boundaries and the code is needed to silence it.  They are programmed to work only on your installation setup.  Most of our models also include built-in GPS tracking.

How often will I need to change the blades?

This may depend upon the type of grass, frequency of mowing, and size of the yard.  Typically, we recommend every 2-3 monthsBlade replacement is included in your rental contract.

What should I do with my mower during the winter?

When winter arrives and your grass stops growing, you will clean your mower, dry it out and store it indoorsWe offer storage options if you don’t have room in your home or garage to store your mower.

Why does the mower run in all different patterns?

By mowing the grass in different directions, the robotic mowers give the grass an even carpet-like look.  This method offers the best chance of covering the entire yard so nothing gets left uncut.

Will I save any money using a robotic mower?

YES! Our robotic mowers cut the grass every day, which keeps the grass healthier, needing less water and fertilizer. They need less maintenance than traditional mowers.  No expensive blade sharpening, engine tune-up, or repairs are needed.

Overall, it’s less expensive to operateElectricity is cheaper than gas, and it uses very little to operate.

You also save on costly labor if you typically pay a landscaper to mow your lawn.

For our residential clients, this means more money and time for you to spend on and with the things you love.

For our commercial clients, labor savings allows for other services to be performed, which generates more revenue for the business, or gets other projects completed in less time, saving more money.
